What is technical translation?
Technical translation is the translation of specialised technical documentation. Generally, documentation which relates to applied and industrial sciences such as engineering, pharmaceutical/medical or IT fields would be described as ‘technical’.
The term technical implies a practical user knowledge. It therefore follows that a technical translation or translation of technical documentation should be carried out by a translator with practical knowledge of the subject matter. Unlike marketing translations where the translator is required to apply creative license, technical translation requires a more literal translation approach.
